Site Maps were Introduced in June of 2005 as a google experiment in crawling the web. Google has now Integrated Site Maps into is crawling infrastructure. The purpose of the Site Maps is to help the engines find new content without having to crawl your entire site. By doing this the spiders can find more Hidden content in less time.
