Doorway pages are sometimes created by SEO companies to achieve rankings for specific search terms without modifying the core sites content. In example a computer company might want to rank for the term hard drives, and they have a pre existing category page in there website for hard drives. The computer company doesn’t want to give the SEO company access to there dynamic content. So rather than modifying the existing page the SEO Company will create an identical page to the hard drive category page, but they will do the doorway page in html. They do this so they can optimize the page to rank without having to worry about what the computer company has done with there dynamic content.
Google generally frowns on Doorway pages, however what they are frowning on is when a company uses multiple doorways pages to rank for the same term multiple times on different domains, there by creating a monopoly for what the user sees for a given search term.
To prevent creating these multiple door way pages make sure you have followed the following items.
- Can create a distinct Meta keyword tag for each page.
- Can create a distinct Meta description tag for each page.
- Can create a distinct title tag for each page.
- Can create a SEO friendly image alt text for the image on the page.
- Can give each category in the website a distinct URL without the dynamic characters “?”, “&”, “=” ,”+”. In a perfect world the URL would look like http://www.MyDomainName.com/HardDrives/ .
